Slow Food Miramichi River meets on the second Monday of each month at various locations throughout the Miramichi Region.

Monthly get-togethers are a fun, inclusive, casual-yet-informative hangouts, with guest speakers and/or featured topics to be discussed over food & drink. New & prospective members are always welcome!

  • Notes: Matthew Trevors of Water Street Market Garden discusses the history and the modern-day equivalent of Victory Gardening to help you get ready for this coming gardening season. Then Chef Brian Matheson sets aside his chef’s hat for the night and puts on his Northumberland Food Security Network hat to give us Food Security 101 – what it is, how to improve it, and what the Food Security Network does in the region.

  • Notes: Our first official gathering! This is a casual meet & greet for members in our new convivium, with Christina discussing the potential role of Slow Food & its members at both the local and national levels.

January 9th, 2017

  • Location: Natoaganeg Community Food Centre, Eel Ground FN
  • Time: 6:30pm
  • Speakers: Christina Allain, Chef Lee Jones and Karen Pinchin
  • Notes: Christina Allain has generously rescheduled due to our Decemeber get-together being cancelled due to a winter storm. Christina is the Secretary of Slow Food in Canada and a Director of Slow Food Cocagne-Acadie, and she will discuss her experiences with the Slow Food movement at both the local and national levels. Chef Lee will take us through the art and science of baking delicious chocolate chip cookies from scratch. Then Fredericton-based freelance journalist and food/travel writer Karen Pinchin will speak about her work and the culinary scene and food & beverage trends throughout the Maritimes – while we eat fresh-baked cookies!
  • Admission: Free, with cash donations to Slow Food Miramichi River and healthy food donations to the Natoaganeg Community Food Centre accepted at the door.
